Letter of Intent

Dear Reader,

The purpose of this blog is to show you my journey in public relations as it relates to consistent interactions between people.

Public Relations, defined by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), says, “Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.”

Since public relations involves controlling the flow of information between an organization or an individual, the field of work is big and is everywhere. In our everyday interactions with people we need to maintain healthy relationships with those we interact with. This is why I love PR.

I have graduated from  Rider University with a public relations major and an emphasis in sociology. I have had experience with leaning how organizations and public figures communicate with their audience using social media. I also love listening to music because it can be interpreted as a universal language and have learned to incorporate the universal love of music with public relations.

I hope with this blog you will see what I have created. I have fresh ideas that are ready to be put to work. If applicable I wish to further discuss my experiences with you. I can be contacted via email at huntermi@rider.edu. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. My resume is below.

Sincerely,
Milana Hunter

Project with the Rider University Photography Club

The Rider University Photography club was established in 1998 to get interested students together and taking pictures for the Lawrenceville campus. In September 2010 the president decided to revamp the club and expanded their picture taking into the New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Connecticut area.

They were lacking in their public relations department so three other girls and I decided to volunteer and take over that job for two and a half months.

I was in charge of revamping the club's Facebook and Twitter page as well as writing press releases on events for the club and other responsibilities that are included on my online portfolio.

Project with Dr. Tim McGee

For this project, I worked with three other women. We were in charge of planning and the implementation of the Faculty Development Days at Rider University. The Faculty Development Days is a series of information sessions to help the faculty and staff at Rider. The assistant coordinator of the event was Dr. McGee, who watched over our team of four women.

My jobs in this event were graphic design, promotion, and public relations. I created and designed the post card and flyer for the event. I also created a logo for the event, since it is a continuing event that is held twice a year, but there was already a logo created for the academic building. I also created a press release with a boilerplate that I submited to the school and local newspaper.  A submition of the event was released to every media outlet at the school including the Rider TV station to alert the faculty and staff.

As a result, the internship helped me network and refresh my skills on InDesign, as well as, showing me how to create packages for distribution of the flyers and post cards. An overall beneficial experience.

Below, I have a link to the online visual portfolio with my work.

I have also included the letter of recommendation that Dr. McGee wrote for me.

My Tumblr Page

In my Publicity Methods class, Dr. Moore had my class create a Tumblr page and write of interesting stories that would intrigue PR practitioners as well as anyone who wanted to read.

In my Tumblr I focus on writing about financial and popular interests among adults and young adults. The posts are short and informative about the written topic for easy skimming and absorption. In every post I also included clickable links, pictures and videos.
